Reading as a hobby

One of my favorite hobbies is reading. My favorite author now is Brandon Sanderson. He is the author of The Stormlight Archives and Mistborn, two of my favorite series. I started reading them back when corona locked down everything because I had time for the first time in a while. I used to read books all the time but when I came to college, I didn’t have enough time and that was the first hobby I gave up. I am happy that I started reading again like I did back in middle school.

Stormlight Archive is my favorite series, but it is difficult to get into. The first book, The Way of Kings, is the shortest book in the series with 400 thousand word and just over a thousand pages. The fourth book, Rhythm of War, is 54 hours long on audible. When the series is finished, it will be comparable in size to the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I just finished listening to that series and I took me just over a year. The worlds that Sanderson creates are extremely detailed and unique. Roshar, the world in Stormlight, has completely different plants and animals that have adapted to live if the strange world.

I used to read a lot when I was a kid. I often got in trouble because my dad would catch me still up reading when he was getting ready for work. I would be reading two or three different books at the same time because I couldn’t get enough. I started to read less in high school because the amount of homework became too much to handle. When I entered college, I completely stopped reading altogether. When covid hit, I finally had free time again and could start reading like I used to. Now I have several bookcases full of books.
